Programme

We will post any changes re dates and locations of Quekett events due to the current COVID-19 outbreak here, so please check before travelling to events. With a view to the safety of you all, we are keeping all meetings under review.

Unless otherwise stated, all QMC gossip meetings and workshops in 2020 will take place in the PA135 Meeting Room at the Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London, SW7 5BD. Access is via the Staff Entrance on Exhibition Road, and there is step-free access using a lift. The closest Underground station is South Kensington, which is on the Circle, District and Piccadilly lines.

The M. C. Cooke Lecture, the L. V. Martin Lecture and the Presidential Address will be held in the Neil Chalmers Seminar Room in the Orange Zone of the Natural History Museum.

Non-members are usually welcome at Quekett meetings, but please check with the Meetings Secretary.

July 2020

Excursion to the Basingstoke Canal
Based in Brookwood Memorial Hall (adjacent to 150 Connaught Road), Brookwood, Surrey, GU24 0AL, where we set up our microscopes and cameras to examine specimens from the Canal and nearby locations.
Free parking in the grounds of the Hall, short walk from Brookwood Station.

Excursion to Warnham Local Nature Reserve
Visit to the interesting and varied nature reserve, off Warnham Road, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 2RA. The Visitor Centre will be available to set up equipment and examine the catch from the dipping ponds. There is a free car park. For more information or booking, please contact Graham Matthews.

Wimbledon Common Open Day
Quekett members will be demonstrating microscopy to the public in the Information Centre (SW19 5NR) on Wimbledon Common as part of our outreach programme. There is a free/donation car park and the Windmill Tearooms near the Centre. Short walk from the 93 bus route (alight at Parkside Hospital). The Open Day features wildlife, craft and charity stalls, birds of prey, reptiles, farm animals, farm machinery and arena events.

Saturday 19th September 2020 – 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Penkridge – This meeting has been cancelled
West Midlands autumn meeting
Haling Dene Centre, Cannock Road, Penkridge, Staffordshire, ST19 5DT.
Joint meeting with Postal Microscopical Society, gossip with demonstrations, sales and photo competition, followed by lectures. Practical Astronomy Show

This free show aims to bring a selection of leading astronomy businesses, organisations and educational institutions together under one roof, and astronomy products and services will be available for purchase. The Quekett will have a display at this free event as part of our outreach programme.

The Quekett will have a stand at this Exhibition as part of our outreach programme. Admission to the Exhibition is £4 for adults, £1 for under-16s.

National Honey Show
A virtual event will be held instead of the usual one at Sandown Park Racecourse.
The Quekett is considering how to participate in the Virtual Trade Hall as part of our outreach programme.

Microscopium – The Microscopists’ Fair
St Stephen’s Church Hall, 14 Watling Street, St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL1 2PX.
The Quekett sales event, with individual member’s sales tables and dealers’ stands; get there early for the best bargains. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available all day for a small charge. Small car park adjacent to the churchyard. Non-members are welcome. Hall available from 9:30 a.m. for sellers to set up their tables. For further information, please contact Mark Shephard.

Saturday 31st October 2020 – 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Bradfield St George – This meeting has been cancelled
East of England meeting
Village Hall, Felsham Road, Bradfield St George, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP30 0AS.
Gossip event arranged by the Eastern Counties Microscopy Study Group and the Iceni Microscopy Study Group with exhibits, gossip and sales in the morning, and presentations in the afternoon.
